What Are The Different Types Of Home Heating Systems?

With all the different heating options available, it is difficult to know which is the best for your needs. Although this article is meant to show you the different home heating systems available, speaking to a licensed HVAC professional is the only one way to be sure which HVAC system is best for you. If you have any questions, or for advice on selecting the best heating system for your home, you can always contact Kings Heating & Air Conditioning in Lynnwood, WA.

1. NATURAL GAS FURNACES

The latest gas furnaces are now equipped with an electronic igniter to light the gas, which then heats the home. In these newer furnaces a pilot-light system is not used as was the case with the older furnaces. Furnaces fitted with an electronic igniter cannot be lit manually.

The igniter lights several burners in a combustion chamber. The heat generated collects in a heat exchanger and is then transferred to the air, raising that air to the temperature set on the thermostat. The air is then delivered to the rest of the house through the ducts.

2. LP GAS

An alternative to natural gas is Liquefied Petroleum gas (LP gas or LPG). LPG is a flammable mixture of different gases and consists of either propane or butane which are both hydrocarbons. When liquefied LPG can be easily transported and stored.

The LPG heating systems work with radiant floor systems as well as convective fan-driven heaters, or a combination of both. LPG systems can be tailored to heat targeted rooms which helps increase the efficiency or it can be applied to an entire home area.

Most furnaces have done away with a pilot light, which is a flame that burns continuously, ready to ignite the burners when required. Furnaces are now fitted with intermittent, direct spark, or hot-surface ignition increasing efficiency.

3. ELECTRIC HEAT PUMP

Heat pumps have a compressor and two copper coils, one outside and one inside. The outside coil takes heat out of the air via a liquid refrigerant when heating is required. The indoor coil then releases the heat from the refrigerant, condensing it back to a liquid state.  To cool the indoors, the process is reversed.

4. OIL

Choosing the right home heating system and sizing it properly requires the support of a trained professional. Do not leave it to any untrained person to do. You can rely on Kings Heating & Air Conditioning in Lynnwood, WA to provide top quality heating system replacements and upgrades that will stand the test of time.

“The team at Kings Heating is the one you hope for whenever you’re needing home services! The level of integrity and care they exhibit, unfortunately, seems to be existing less and less these days. Erin, Gary, Michaela, & Brent are nothing short of amazing! Please know that you’ll be in great hands whenever you’re working with Kings.”
