Upcoming Revision To The National Appliance Energy Conservation Act – NAECA

As of April 16th, 2015, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) updated the rules for increased minimum energy efficiency for water heaters. These design changes will require that most residential water heaters under 55 gallons of capacity produced after April 16, 2015, to be larger in size. Therefore, they will require more installation space in both single-family and multi-family housing. Most water heaters under 55 gallons will grow by approximately 2”in height and diameter. Units over 55 gallons will require even more drastic changes.

How NAECA affects YOU

  • Homeowners have much to gain from the new efficiency regulations, as energy and money savings can be considerable with the new compliant products.
  • In most cases, the new products will differ only slightly in size due to additional insulation (1-2 inches in diameter, and/or 1-2 inches in height), and therefor will easily replace the majority of existing products.
  • However, in some rare cases a water heater may have to be moved to a new location if available space is inadequate. It is also possible that a different type of water heater may be required in order to meet the new EF guidelines.
  • Hire a professional contractor. A professional will understand the new guidelines, will know all the product choices available, and will be able to make a recommendation that best meets your home and family’s needs.

Water heaters that are larger than 55 gallons will undergo the biggest changes. They may require more space or potentially switching models.

“The team at Kings Heating is the one you hope for whenever you’re needing home services! The level of integrity and care they exhibit, unfortunately, seems to be existing less and less these days. Erin, Gary, Michaela, & Brent are nothing short of amazing! Please know that you’ll be in great hands whenever you’re working with Kings.”

“We had a great experience working with Kings Heating and AC! Front desk and technicians are both friendly, easy going, but professional, knowledgeable and fast. We had our furnace maintenance scheduled and inspected in no time, received notifications during the process and final invoice right after. Too easy! Highly recommended to use for any heating and AC work.”
