1. NATURAL GAS FURNACES
The latest gas furnaces are now equipped with an electronic igniter to light the gas, which then heats the home. In these newer furnaces a pilot-light system is not used as was the case with the older furnaces. Furnaces fitted with an electronic igniter cannot be lit manually.
The igniter lights several burners in a combustion chamber. The heat generated collects in a heat exchanger and is then transferred to the air, raising that air to the temperature set on the thermostat. The air is then delivered to the rest of the house through the ducts.
2. LP GAS
An alternative to natural gas is Liquefied Petroleum gas (LP gas or LPG). LPG is a flammable mixture of different gases and consists of either propane or butane which are both hydrocarbons. When liquefied LPG can be easily transported and stored.
The LPG heating systems work with radiant floor systems as well as convective fan-driven heaters, or a combination of both. LPG systems can be tailored to heat targeted rooms which helps increase the efficiency or it can be applied to an entire home area.

3. ELECTRIC HEAT PUMP
Heat pumps have a compressor and two copper coils, one outside and one inside. The outside coil takes heat out of the air via a liquid refrigerant when heating is required. The indoor coil then releases the heat from the refrigerant, condensing it back to a liquid state. To cool the indoors, the process is reversed.
